By Kevin McLaughlin

Motorcycles are not like cars and while someone can drive a car without knowing much about the engine it is recommended that anyone who owns or rides a motorcycle should have a basic understanding of the engine and how to perform minor and temporary repairs. The simple point behind this is that motorcycle engines will fail and being stuck on the side of the road is never much fun. Motorcycles tend to break down more often than cars and most bikers will tinker with their engine anyway to make custom adjustments and install performance parts. Knowing the basics of your motorcycle engine can lead to a quick or temporary fix to get you moving until you can find a trusted mechanic to perform a more thorough repair job.

Because of the job an exhaust does there are a number of problems that can occur with the part and the entire exhaust system. Remember, the exhaust is basically the trash chute for your bike’s reaction exhaust gasses and the insides and outsides of an exhaust can get extremely hot when riding. Your exhaust and drag pipes can experience a number of common problems including overheating which will cause a “bluing” effect on the tips of the pipes. Even with polished chrome finishes over time the heat will cause a bluish or black color on the pipes. Though this may appear to be only a cosmetic issue over time the excessive heat can cause parts to deteriorate which can lead to harmful gasses being released in every direction.

Since heat is your major concern consider the different ways you can maintain the temperature in the exhaust so it doesn’t overheat and what you can do should the system suffer deterioration or even punctures from excessive heat. One option for preparing bikes in advance is to install high quality chrome plated heat shields. Often double or triple-chrome plated heat shields are designed to fit most standard motorcycle drag pipes and come complete with clips for mounting. Heat shields will provide an extra few layers of protection to lessen the damaging effects from the heat and reduce bluing. Heat shields not only protect the exhaust system but also add a shiny chrome finish to your bike’s exterior.

Another tip for preserving the exhaust on your motorcycle is to periodically rotate the pipes if you have twin pipes. Gas doesn’t always distribute evenly and if you did a custom install with an aftermarket exhaust it is recommended that you rotate the exhaust pipes so if there is an excess of heat to one side you can moderate the effect it has on your pipes. You should check all motorcycle engine parts on a regular basis to achieve optimum performance but regulating the heat in the engine is your primary concern.

Other ideas for cooling a motorcycle exhaust are to install cooling clamps and to use either a liquid or air cooling system in the engine. You may also want to consider using a carbon fiber exhaust system with a carbon fiber exhaust cover since this material heats up much slower than metal.

When it comes to cool looking jackets, the Men’s Leather Motorcycle Jacket is on the top of the list among the competition for a number of reasons. This article will explain a couple of those reasons as well as outline a few things to look for when shopping for this jacket.

First, the jacket you select should appeal to you, not the mass audience that we are constantly compared to on a day to day basis. After all, what you like is what matters most right? If you don’t like it, why buy it? This jacket is designed to give you a traditional biker look with all of the silver hardware, and big leather flaps, buckles, and so on. If the traditional look is what you are looking for, then you’ll definitely want to consider a Men’s Leather Motorcycle Jacket.

Second, the Men’s Leather Motorcycle Jacket is made with top quality leather which is tough, durable, and made to last. The leather is 1.2 mm thick, which is considered to be part of the heavyweight leather category, so you know you’re getting a heavy duty jacket and not a paper thin coat. Also, the hardware that is present on this jacket is also built to last, and will hold up year after year as you wear your jacket on all of your motorcycle rides.

Make sure you are ordering the right size jacket. Make use of sizing charts, which are there for a reason. And don’t hesitate to order a size or two bigger because chances are you will be wearing the jacket in cooler weather so you may want extra layers underneath. Take a look at the return policy. Does it seem reasonable? Typically, you can expect to see a restock fee should you decide to return it, so this reinforces the fact that you need to make sure you have the right size. Most companies are willing to exchange without question. You may be responsible for shipping the jacket back.

When shopping for any men’s leather motorcycle jacket, it’s important to really make the decision of whether or not the jacket is right for you. If you don’t like something about the jacket, or if you find yourself second guessing yourself about purchasing it, then you probably shouldn’t purchase it and move on to find something else that suits you better.

The Men’s Leather Motorcycle Jacket is a great jacket and once you’ve decided that it is the jacket for you, review the simple steps mentioned above about shopping for a jacket. You’ll be completely satisfied with your purchase and you’ll have a much more pleasant shopping experience.

Engines make noise. Even after a century of progress and new technology combustible engines (often found in street motorcycles, racing bikes and cruisers) still use exhausts, exhaust pipes and mufflers (or silencers) to reduce the amount of noise being emitted from an engine as well as to steer the exhaust gas away from the engine. There are several different types of exhausts that can be used for specific motorcycle models as well as a variety of metals and carbon fiber materials to make exhausts with.

Though an exhaust is an individual part of the engine it is usually attached to a system that can include mufflers, cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, turbochargers, and catalytic converters and drag pipes. All of these parts act together to guide reaction exhaust gasses away from an engine. This helps to keep the engine cool and quiet and also protects riders from inhaling noxious carbon monoxide fumes while riding.

You will notice exhausts and drag pipes are always located underneath and slightly behind the rider’s seat and pointing away from the engine and bike. Depending on the bike you have you may adjust the height of your exhaust. Racing bikes that take close hairpin turns will often place their exhaust higher up on the bike to avoid scraping the part when turning.

Motorcycles will usually include one of the following exhaust types: a twin cylinder with separate exhausts or one that guides exhaust gas into a single section, also known as a two-in-one or 2-1; a 4-cylinder twin exhaust system that is often found on larger motorcycles and the full system exhaust also known as a four-to-one on 4-1.

Regulations limit the types of exhaust systems manufacturers can install on commercial motorcycles but aftermarket exhausts can be found in several high quality materials including aluminum, steel, titanium, carbon fiber and even Kevlar. Many motorcyclists will opt to swap out the OEM exhaust on their bike and install either a full system or slip-on exhaust to get better performance and in some cases to make the bike louder. There are laws limiting the noise decibels of motorcycles so if you are replacing a motorcycle exhaust know the laws of your state or town before tearing off in a big bang of noise that is sure to attract the authorities.

Fines can vary from state to state but generally speaking the laws against noise levels on bikes is mostly to keep large cruiser bikes and the infamous “crotch rockets” from roaring through neighborhoods and essentially disturbing the peace. The common complaint against loud motorcycles is that when they travel down a road with cars parked on the sides the roar and vibrations from the engine can easily set off car alarms and cause a ruckus. If you race on a track or have a designated area for motorcycle riding the sound of your exhaust should not be a problem.

If you are an avid motorcyclist it is likely that you’ll want take your motorcycle with you whenever you travel. The easiest way to do this is to purchase a motorcycle trailer. There are so many different kinds available that it can be hard to make the right choice.

The best way to make a decision is to think about where you’ll go with your motorcycle trailer. Traveling to rougher locations in harsher elements will require a top of the line, tough model. Many bikers need a motorcycle trailer that is durable and safe to protect their most important investment.

Before you can even begin to decide what kind of motorcycle trailer to buy, you have to check and see how much weight your vehicle can hold. Safety always comes first! You don’t want to end up getting a motorcycle trailer that is too large or too small. The information you need in order to choose can be found in your owner’s manual.

Once you’ve determined how much weight your vehicle can tow, you can match that capacity with the motorcycle trailer you are interested in. If you have smaller motorcycle, you can make do with a smaller trailer. Keep in mind that you may want to carry more cargo at some point. Find a happy medium so that you won’t be dissatisfied later on.

Even though you’ve considered the weight and size of the motorcycle trailer, you need to factor in what the weight will be when you put your motorcycle in. You body weight counts as well! You definitely don’t want to overload your vehicle with your motorcycle trailer or you will have a safety issue on your hands.

After you’ve fully considered the size and weight of the motorcycle trailer you’ll want to decide if you need an open or closed model. If the motorcycle you’ll be transporting in your motorcycle trailer cannot get wet, you’ll need a closed version. Another consideration is that you can lock the doors on a closed motorcycle for security reasons.

The doors on a motorcycle trailer will add some weight, but the added security and flexibility is a must for some bikers.

You’ll also need to consider how the motorcycle trailer will ride behind your vehicle. This is one of the reasons it’s necessary to get a high quality motorcycle trailer.

It is important to always make sure you load your bike onto the motorcycle trailer evenly. It can throw you off balance if not. If your vehicle dips and weaves it is possible that the motorcycle trailer is not evenly packed. If this is the case it may mean that you cannot stop quickly in case of an emergency.

If you’re driving down the road with your fully packed motorcycle trailer and you notice that you’re being thrown off balance you’ll want to stop and pull over to redistribute the weight.

There are many things to consider before you buy your motorcycle trailer and put it to good use. Always put safety first and double-check how much weight your vehicle can handle. If you do enough research you’ll find a motorcycle trailer that fits your needs perfectly.

Where the best deals are can be a problem if you are looking for deals online. Many retailers promote substantial savings on the Internet during the holidays. If you do not know who might need it, literally throwing your money down there on absolute nonsense. Worse yet, you can transfer your valuable information on a bank robber.

But can you really the lowest price guaranteed on all parts and accessories for your Kawasaki motorcycle and ATV Kawasaki - ATV vehicles on the web? Or is it just a allegory? I come in many companies is that their prices ever on the internet, but it is very difficult to control expenditure. Many times these companies will go to 20%. This is where many companies online that the road and instead of offering the lowest price at which their goals and deliver only 20% to stop. In other words, if your web searches and online research share Kawasaki ATV dealer in your choice and selection. A fair deal on the internet is not really a myth. There are companies that give you a lot. Consider two things for the savings that are promised. Certainly they have done a service to the public. You may find that customer feedback page for more information about the company of your choice.

The other thing you want is to ensure that it provides familiarity with real parts and Kawasaki OEM parts Kawasaki ATV. I have business on the web; Kawasaki ATV parts network must reach 50% of the subscribers. This includes spare Kawasaki motorcycle and ATV parts, but you really need homework at home. Note that when our own research we were a bit “surprised that many of these companies make money on Jacked costs. The results are impressive. So even if you think you found a good deal, not for me to pay the soaring costs.

Is it worth? May be. You can in all cases, the nature of the items you want without leaving home and miles of travel - in some cases - a reliable store. Customer satisfaction goes a long way, so make sure you have a site again to find their customer service line with reference to, if you find a source of Kawasaki. Time is money today and perhaps not want to waste half a day traveling to a location dealer contact you.

Do you love to go biking? Do you own a nice manly motorbike? Missing something - a helmet maybe?

We all know it’s rather nice a feeling when you are riding that bike and the wind flows through your hair, but if you weren’t aware, we’d tell you, it’s at a great risk that you do so. Buy a helmet, even if it’s expensive, because in the end, it might end up saving you from mind boggling hospital expenses.

Well, ever ended up looking for cheaper helmets without the DOT label of approval? Those are just junks since they are flimsy and won’t be able to save lives! Learn to compromise and learn that money can buy you safety. Look around and we’re sure you’ll get one that suits your needs. Read on to find out more about Scorpion motorcycle helmets…

So what do Scorpion Helmets have that other brands don’t have?

One motorcycle helmet you can rely on is the Scorpion motorcycle helmet. Why? The prices are affordable and the quality is the best you’ll get in the market. Scorpion manufactures products that are mainly helmets. They use the best designers in the business to design those motorcycle helmets so they are as good as custom made ones! The materials used are highly durable and of the highest quality and several special processes are used to produce things that’ll not only last longer, but also be within the safety levels and standards.

Scorpion manufactures entire helmets themselves, without allowing any outsourcing or subcontracting. The helmets are all produced and made to last, in their own plant, therefore, each step in its making is carefully monitored and kept under strictly controlled conditions to yield the finest helmets you’ve ever worn!

So how do they make them?

Most helmets these days are manufactured so that they don’t break or shatter on impact. Scorpion uses Kevlar matrix shell or fiberglass. There’s a DOT label or Snell 2000 certification lined on the chin bar, which allow you to check for authenticity. These helmets are seriously a great buy. If you want to know one other further feature that’ll make you go ‘Wow’ we’ll tell you about the anti-fog functions that Scorpion motorcycle helmets boast.

The Scorpion helmets are manufactured mainly in China but are designed and inspected in the United States. The inner layering of the helmets is made of the highest quality fabric. The fabric absorbs the moisture from the forehead and the in-built ventilation system allows air to flow freely so that you don’t suffocate. This’ll keep you cool and fresh.

Characteristics of the Scorpion that Put Them a World Apart from the Rest

The helmet is a bit heavy when compared to other ones, but it’s always worth it, especially when you look at the safety features you are being offered. When you wear it, it should fit you perfectly and be sealed properly. How do you realize if it’s been sealed correctly? Well, there’ll be good drop in the ordinary levels of sound when you’re cruising.

You should feel satisfied and assured that when you buy a Scorpion helmet, it’s the world’s best motorcycling helmet! It’s really worth the money! Of course, if you want to make it last, you have to make some efforts to maintain it.

Get a pair of great motorcycling boots to go with that helmet, and be the center of attraction, even on the roads!

Gary has a Harley Davidson chopper at home. This took almost a year to assemble since the parts were purchased from different suppliers. Now that it is almost complete, the only thing to do will be to get the right motorcycle helmet.

The motorcycle dealer only sold bright colored helmets. After fitting this and checking it for any defects, Gary chose the yellow one since this is the most visible during the day and at night.

Gary was not happy with the helmet being in just one shade. To make this better, this person thought of either putting stickers or having this custom painted. Given that it will be another 4 to 5 years that this will have to be replaced, the owner decided to have it painted.

The local shop was able to make the changes after 2 weeks. Since it was very sunny where Gary lived, there was a need to buy other accessories.

One of the most important things that had to be purchased was a visor. Gary preferred to get the detachable kind to protect this person from the brightness of the sun and debris, which may come toward the biker.

Gary also replaced this strap to hold the helmet in place. This person believed that the two-ring type that is able to hold better than the one made of Velcro. The bike owner got this idea after reading a safety report in a magazine which said the head gear could come off if this isn’t fastened securely while cruising fast or suddenly breaking on the road.

A month after changing a few accessories on the helmet, Gary was ready to hit the open road. This person not only traveled on short trips but also used this for traveling from one town to the next.

Many people admired the changes that were made by Gary. This person did not boast about it and just accepted the compliments humbly and said this can be done by anybody. All the biker has to do is use one’s imagination and make it happen. Those that need a little guidance should watch other riders or read up on magazines to find it.

Gary did not pick accessories for the helmet so that people can give compliments. This person did it to express this biker’s individuality. The owner felt this was the only way to feel safe and cool at the same time whenever getting on the road with the bike.

By Don G Smith

Ready to change your motorcycle? Then you must be thinking about your purchase of a new set of custom motorcycle wheels! This article is not the end-all of buying guides, but I hope to help you with a smooth, and satisfying buying experience.

The very first thing you need to decide is how much you are willing to spend. A good set of wheels can cost at least $2000, so you will need to budget your purchase wisely. Most custom motorcycle wheels are made from billet aluminum, in a CNC machine, and not mass quantity castings such as car wheels. Also, as you have noticed, custom motorcycle wheels have to look good on both sides, which is not the case for your car.

The next decision is what type of wheel you want. For example, do you want a spoke wheel? Do you want a chrome wheel? An option to consider is a polished wheel, or a black anodized wheel. A polished wheel will “weather” better in a climate such as Florida, where there is a lot of salt-air. A chrome wheel is easy to clean, but is more susceptible to the elements which cause corrosion. A polished wheel is well suited for these climates, but takes a lot of maintenance to keep their shine. A black anodized wheel or powder coated wheel is more of a “look” choice, and are not as durable as a chrome or polished wheel. (Though a black magic marker can often hide dings in these wheels.)

Once your decision has been made on the type of wheel, the next step is finding a design which looks good on your specific bike, and more importantly, that you love. Yes, I said love, because when you are spending this kind of money, you will probably not want to like your wheels, you will need to love them. This is why you should never “settle” for a wheel design.

There are many different media outlets to view wheel designs offered in the market. Most enthusiasts will subscribe to a type of motorcycle industry magazine, such as American Bagger. These magazines will have numerous wheel ads, with some of the company’s offerings. I would suggest going to the most common place to search for something, Google. Type in Custom Motorcycle Wheels, and click search. This will bring up the most popular company’s websites in the industry.

Spend some time going through each company’s website, looking at the different options you have. Most websites will have a motorcycle wheel selector. This allows you to view their wheels on your bike, a handy tool to help you decide what looks good on your bike. Don’t forget to look for specials, or eBay deals and steals, many companies have an eBay store for their clearance items. This is often a great place to find brand new wheels, with a large discount.

I think you have the resources to find the wheel design that fits your needs. The next decision is the size of the wheels you want to put on your motorcycle. For example, 2002-2008 baggers, or FLH Harley, have stock sizes of 16″ x 3.5″ on both the front and rear. From my experience, about 75% of customers will choose to upgrade to a 21″ x 3.5″ on the front, and 18″ x 4.25″ on the rear. These are the largest sizes you can upgrade to on this bike, without major modifications. You could also choose to only go to a 18″ x 3.5″ on the front. Keep in mind, the stock rotor size is almost 12 inches, so, on a 16″ wheel, you will only see 2 inches of wheel, whereas the 21″ wheel, you see 4.5 inches of wheel. This is significant when spending such a large amount of money on motorcycle wheels; you’ll want to see them!!

Some motorcycles will only have the stock sizes available. When you are speaking to a sales consultant, ask them what size options they have available for your bike. They will most often have a reference guide to size wheels for your specific motorcycle. One last thing to remember, when you change the size of your wheel, you will NOT be able to use your stock tires. I would suggest timing the replacement of your tires with the new set of custom motorcycle wheels, or you can sell those stock tires on eBay!

Once you have the design picked, pricing is the next step. Whether you are getting an email quote, phone quote, or looking at eBay pricing, there are some things to remember, and ask! When looking at a set, be sure the wheels come with hubs, and are ready to bolt on, without any additional parts or modifications. It may seem small, but ensure there are bearings in the hubs, and even valve stems. Some companies will try to save a few dollars, and don’t include these items. If you decide to purchase tires, is the package price with tires mounted and balanced? Does the package price include shipping? Where is the company you are doing business with? If you are located in the same state, you will need to pay sales tax. Most often, you will not have to pay sales tax, unless you are un-lucky enough to decide on a company in your state. Some companies will often give a larger discount to in-state customers, which can help offset the additional cost of sales tax. Be sure to ask these questions, you will save time and money!

While getting pricing on your wheels, you should also consider including matching rotors and a pulley in your purchase. Most custom motorcycle wheels will have a matching cut rotor, and pulley. Also consider your bike type and this extra expense. On a bagger, you do not see the rear rotor and pulley, so most customers opt not to purchase those items, and can save as much as $6-800 dollars. However, on a Dyna, you do see the rear rotor and pulley, so you may decide to change all the rotors, and pulley. For matching cut rotors, you should expect to pay from $239 upwards to over $350 per rotor. For a matching cut pulley, you can expect to pay from $429 upwards to over $500 for a pulley. Again, if you ask for package pricing, you will often receive discounts on all parts in the package.

When getting rotors or a pulley, be sure to inquire as to what hardware you will receive, such as bolts, and some brand of thread-locker. Most companies will not attach the rotors to the wheels before shipping, as they can easily be damaged in shipping. Don’t worry, attaching the rotors yourself is a simple process, or you can let your local dealer do the install.

As in any purchase, be sure to inquire about the products warranty, return policy, and any restock fees associated with a return. In custom motorcycle wheels, a good warranty is a 2 year chrome warranty, and a lifetime structural warranty. Also, be sure to ask if the warranty is transferrable, some warranties are void if the bike or wheels are sold to another individual.

Another important question to ask, when will I receive me wheels? Most manufacturers stock the most popular sizes of custom motorcycle wheels, but sometimes it can take up to 4-5 weeks to receive a complete package. So, it is very important to know the timeframe to receive your items.

An important decision to make is who does the installation of all these new parts? If you have been working on motorcycles for years, and have good mechanical knowledge, you should be able to the installation yourself. If not, please go to a local dealer to have them professionally installed. You will pay $200-450 for installation, but is money well spent to ensure the job is done properly.

Once your project is complete, don’t be afraid to raise questions if something doesn’t feel right with your ride. Don’t be satisfied, if you truly aren’t. Your new wheel purchased will no doubt wow your riding buddies, with all the shiny new chrome. A great set of custom motorcycle wheels will change your ride.

The Joint stock Japanese Company Shoei has been manufacturing helmets since 1954. They used to produce Polyester helmets for the construction industry. But from 1958 the founder of Shoei, Eitaro Kamata started manufacturing helmets for the motorcycle racing sector.

The company has its headquarters in Taito, Tokyo, Japan. The company manufactures every Shoei helmet meeting the industry standards of Japan, it also comprises of regulations of classifying and numbering. The motor company Honda accepted the Shoei Helmet as their authentic helmet in 1965. Another factory was constructed in Iwate in 1989.

All the helmets are designed and produced in Japan, even though they are sold and circulated worldwide. In spite of the big success, there are only 500 people employed by them worldwide and this is why it still is a small company. Even then, Shoei’s GRV helmet was the first one to utilize carbon fiber and Kevlar. Thus the helmet is very durable and light, both at the same time. Shoei was also the designer of the first coverless and Duel Liner Vent system. Shoei won the Product of the Year for X-spirit, in 2003, which is the most advanced helmet across the globe.

Shoei are very popular producers of motorcycle helmets around Europe. The example that the company sets by promoting new versions of their helmets every time, is a sign that the manufacturers want to expand the base and production to meet the growing requirements of their target customers.

This is one of the reasons why Shoei are the most wanted brand in Europe.

There is well distributed domain of the Shoei Helmet and therefore it is very easy to locate your favorite. With the help of these sites you would not have to venture to the distributor’s store. There is an online catalogue describing the features of each helmet. But both the online and offline stores are there to help you in choosing the right kind of product, exclusively for you. This is one reason why their patrons consider them first. And what’s more Shoei also provide you with the option of customizing your helmet, which nobody else does.

By John Daniele

Your child just told you that he wants to ride a motorcycle and asks of you would buy him a helmet. Once you manage to get your heart out of your throat and back into your chest, you consider his request. By purchasing a youth helmet for him, you can take some of the decision into your own hands and alleviate your worry. The best thing you can do is make sure you buy him a helmet that fits properly, provides ample protection to his face and head, and has the correct amount of retention.

When you go to get a youth helmet for your child, always bring your child with you. An expert at any shop that sells these helmets can help you find one that has the proper fit. They will measure your child’s head and then give you a size to start with. Let your child try on the helmet’s that are the right size and in the colors and styles they like the best. By doing this you are allowing your child to have a say in an important piece of safety equipment. Plus you will be able to see if it fits properly. If your child gets to choose their youth helmet, they’ll be more likely to wear it.

Here are a few helpful tips to get you and your child started on selecting the right youth helmet specifically for them so they can start riding as soon as possible.

The first tip to follow is to allow your child to try on several different youth helmets and wear each one for about five to ten minutes. By having your youth wear the helmet for a small length of time he will be able to tell you what spots on the helmet are not fitting well or what if any parts are bothersome to him. This time will also give you the ability to check to make sure the helmet fits properly, resting just above your child’s eyebrows. When you are removing the helmet, check for any indentations or red marks on your child’s head.

The second tip when choosing a youth helmet is to make sure the helmet has a comfort liner on the interior. This foam will form to the shape and contour of the child’s head and will become much more comfortable with longer periods of wear. By starting your youth off with a well fitted helmet you are offering him the best possible protection while he is riding.

The next tip when buying a youth helmet is to ensure that the helmet has been treated not only with an anti-fog treatment but also with an anti-scratch treatment. This will ensure that the face protection surface will not become scratched or fogged during riding, making your youths vision the best in can be. Also check the visor and make sure it does not touch the outer part of the helmet. If it does it could cause scratches and make your youths vision blurry through his visor.

When buying a motorcycle youth helmet you should always remember that although the lighter style of youth helmet will be more comfortable to your child, the heavier style will offer more protection. Finding a balance between comfort and protection will give your child the comfort he needs from his youth helmet but also the safety you want him to have.
