3 Benefits of Buying a Used Motorcycle
The advantages of buying a used motorcycle may outweigh your desire for that motorcycle on the showroom floor once you know that it will cost you less, gain you expensive upgrades, and help you enjoy riding it more.
Lower Cost
Just like a car, a motorcycle depreciates over time. As the model year gets older and miles are added to the bike, the price goes down. Also, new bikes are in a certain price range and the same model doesn’t vary so much from dealer to dealer. When you buy a used motorcycle prices vary wildly and the price a seller asks may be related to how motivated he is to get rid of it. Often, used motorcycles are items that someone will sell when they hit hard times. You may get an even better deal if you buy during winter in a cold climate.
Upgrades
Most motorcycle owners add aftermarket parts to customize their bikes. They may add accessories that make the bike look better like chrome, handle bars, having it custom painted, or installing an upgraded seats. If the owner wants to improve the engine he might upgrade some of the engine parts. Each upgrade comes with a price tag. When you add them all up you could be saving a significant amount just on the customization of the bike alone. Just be sure these are customization that you really want and will appreciate.
Less Worry
Although it may sound like a disadvantage a used motorcycle is likely to have at least minor scratches. So you can let go of that perfectionist mentality that sometimes keeps you from driving too many miles, or worrying too much when a bike gets scratched. A used bike may be in excellent condition but it won’t be perfect and so you won’t have to be either.
When comparing used motorcycles for sale look at the price, upgrades, and the condition of the bike. You may score a used motorcycle that is a great price, has upgrades you want and has just enough imperfections to make it fun to ride.
